Privacy Policy

Effective October 29, 2026

This policy covers this website, the Continental Chess Association's (CCA) site for tournament information, schedules, results and games. Entries are taken on CCA's online entry site, chessaction.com, which is covered under Tournament entries below.

Visiting this website

You can browse this website without giving any personal information. Like most web servers, ours records basic visit details such as your IP address, browser and the pages viewed, which are used only to run and protect the site. This website uses a session cookie for CCA staff who sign in; it does not use advertising or tracking cookies.

Tournament results

Standings, crosstables and games from CCA tournaments, including players' names, ratings, US Chess IDs and results, are published on this website and CCA's event sites. They are kept as a permanent record and are not removed. If you don't want your results published, or those of a player you enter, please don't enter the tournament.

Tournament entries

When you enter a tournament online, CCA collects:

  • Name, address, rating, US Chess ID and expiration date, to verify identity and eligibility, keep mailing lists correct, and process US Chess or state memberships and prizes. Your address may be given to US Chess or a state chess association for a membership you buy; otherwise it is not shared.
  • Date of birth, for juniors, seniors and unrated players, to verify identity or eligibility.
  • Email address, to contact you about your entry. It is not shared, and is added to CCA's mailing list only if you ask.
  • Phone number, for emergency contact about your entry only. It is not used for marketing or shared.
  • Payment card, for entry fees and membership dues, through a secure payment process. CCA does not keep full card numbers.
Mailing list

CCA's mailing list is only for players who ask to join. Addresses are used only by CCA and are never given to other organizations, and every email explains how to unsubscribe.

Prize winners

To pay prizes and file the tax forms the law requires, CCA keeps prize winners' names, addresses, US Chess IDs and, when needed, tax IDs. Tax IDs are stored securely and shared only with CCA's accounting system, its accountants and tax authorities.

Sharing

CCA does not sell, rent or trade personal information. Beyond the cases above, it is shared only when the law requires.

Changes and contact

CCA may update this policy; the effective date above shows the latest version, and changes are not applied to information collected before them. Questions can be sent to the Continental Chess Association, PO Box 8482, Pelham, NY 10803, or by email (show email address).
